Joan (Joanne) Kilcrease Bordeaux

Send Flowers Send Flowers
Joan (Joanne) Kilcrease Bordeaux, age 85 of Monticello, stepped into heaven Saturday, June 9, 2018. She was born on March 20, 1933 in Hartman, AR to the late John and Ola Clark Kilcrease. Her husband, Cecil, her parents, and her brothers Clarke, Kenneth, Gorman and Tommy Sam preceded her in death.

She is survived by two daughters, Linda Griffin (Jessie) and Cecile Blucker; two grandchildren, Brandon Lloyd (Brandy) and Heather Leser (Eric); five great-grandchildren, Jacobson, Carlee, Savannah, Jolie and Greyson; her half-sister, Ellen Sue Cantrell (Randy) and half-brother, James Kilcrease (Diane), a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, and her special angel caregiver, Debbie Henry.

Joan graduated from Desha Central and grew up in Rohwer and McGehee. As a young woman, her dream of going to college to be a teacher was never fulfilled, but she worked a variety of jobs after starting out in the "dime store" at McGehee. She was able to travel/live with her husband throughout the southern and southeastern states of the country when he worked for Pomeroy and McGeown. After she and Cecil settled in Monticello, Joan was employed as a beautician at Sue's Beauty Shop on the square; she worked for Pomeroy and McGeown, Union Bank, and retired from Burlington industries after 25+ years.

Joan had a special love for Enon Baptist Church and the Enon community. She served as church secretary, Sunday School teacher, member of finance committee, nominating committee and participated in the many church activities. If the door was open, Joan was there. Joan was also in the Enon Water Board and the Enon Community Center.

Among her interests were working with the Drew Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Enon Extension Homemakers, the Drew County Democratic Committee, and working at the polls during elections; she enjoyed sewing, making flower arrangements, reading, working crossword puzzles, and traveling. Joan and Cecil were fortunate to have made many trips within the United States covering all the states; they also traveled overseas to Russia, Holland, England, Germany, Turkey, Mexico, Hungary, Canada, Greece, Austria, France, Italy, Spain and the Holy Lands.

Joan will be remembered as a smart, strong, independent woman with the ability to make a penny squeal. She was not afraid to take a firm stand for what she believed in and was willing to fight for what was right. Even though her mother died when she was three and she faced multiple emotional scars as a youth, she never let that hold her back. She was a fighter with strong belief in God. In family situations and her many surgeries, her comment always was, "I just turned it over to the Lord".

Joan loved her family. As a working mother, she always made sure her children had completed their homework with which she and Cecil helped, making sure it was done and done correctly. She and Cecil participated in many of their children's school and church activities. It was very important to Joan that her children be raised in a Christian home, be involved in church, and have a good education. It was not a question of "whether" the children were going on to college; it was "where" they would go. This was very important to both of them as this was one unfulfilled dream of theirs. She instilled qualities of Christianity, honesty, hard work, having respect for others, integrity, and a sense of humor in her children which she considered would carry them through all walks of life. Her life lessons will live on within her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

The Family would like to express their deep gratitude to the Arkansas Hospice staff, Dr. Fakouri, Dr. Simon and their staff for their genuine concern and care of our loved one. "Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her". (Pro.31:28).

I was so saddened to read of Joan's passing - not because of her loss, I know she's walking those streets of gold - but because of our loss. We worked many years together at Pomeroy and McGowen. I was fortunate enough to see Joan quite a lot after we both had left P&M even up to her last few years. Joan was truly one of a kind. She will be missed by so many. If I could be talking to her face to face I would tell her I was sure Enon could not function without her. I pray the family will 'turn it over to God' as she did and look to him for the strength, comfort and peace that only He can give. Keeping you in my prayers,
    Carole (Johns) Rushing
