Joyce graduated from Drew Central High School in 1976, Professional Beauty College on August 4, 1990, and attended University of Arkansas in Monticello.
Joyce grew up in the Pentecostal church. As a young adult she obeyed the gospel of Christ and was a faithful member of the Church of Christ at Kennedy Boulevard where she enjoyed being a part of service and believed in the power of prayer.
Joyce gained employment with Burlington Industries, Drew Central School, and Southeast Arkansas Advantage for a combined total of 49 years. She was a very hard worker and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Joyce was the heart of every family gathering, never a dull moment. She was known for her remarkable knowledge of family history and had a fond love for cooking, cleaning and working in her flowers.
In addition to her parents, Joyce is preceded in death by four brothers, James, Edward, Eugene and Newt Washington Jr and one sister, Margaret Griggs.
Joyce leaves to cherish her memory, her loving and devoted son Christopher (Patrice) Spencer; two grandchildren, Devon Spencer and Daryn Spencer; three great-grandchildren, Krue Junior, Jax and Imoni Spencer; two brothers Bernard (NeoShanta) Washington, and John (Kimberly) Washington; four sisters Gracie Sawyer, Leola Roberts, Earlene Middleton, and Hazelene (James)McCray Sr.; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Washington and Barbara Washington; along with a host of nieces, nephews, family members, and friends who will forever cherish her memory.

Monticello, AR Monday, February 16, 2026 I worked with Joyce at Burlington in the Shipping Department in the 80’s. I do not remember the topic of our first conversation but all these decades I can STILL remember the first sentence she spoke to me. Clearly, with a roll those big eyes almost hidden behind her blinking eyelashes and her thick southern drawl, she spoke 11 words. I think of that and other conversations we had and laugh. Really laugh. Some people bring joy to the world. JOYce brought her share with her quick, witty words and swift comeback one liners. I love her. I will miss her.Jana Wright
Monticello, AR Friday, February 13, 2026 I went to beauty college with Mrs. Joyce. After that, any time we saw one another, we would talk and catch up on each other. I was very saddened to see she had passed. Prayers for all of her family. She was a wonderful lady.Sherry Ellis O'Neill
