He was retired from pipeline construction, local Union 624 and attended the Assembly of God Church. He was the son of the late S.O. (Obie) Burton and Eloise Sawyer Burton. He was also preceded in death by one son, Brian Burton of Durham, N.C.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years Martha Joy Wilson Burton; six children, Joy Cooper and husband Fred of Monticello, Doyle "Buck" Burton and wife Dorcas of the Green Hill Community, Joe "Donnie" Burton and wife Jonene of Orange, TX, Melinda Loveless and husband Herschell of the Valley Community, Debbie Burton, of the Green Hill Community and Robert Burton of the Green Hill Community; two brothers, Ted "Boots" Burton of Monticello and Billy Burton of Warren, one daughter-in-law, Barbara Burton of Durham, N.C.; fourteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
