He was a retired civil engineer for Hardaway Corporation, a Mason, Shriner and a Baptist. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Bobby H. Sawyer and a sister, Mayvia J. Sawyer Robbins.
Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Cheryl Arkin of Nashville, TN and Glenda Regina Swisher of Houston, TX; one sister, Melinda Sawyer McDaniel of Monticello; three grandsons, one granddaughter and a devoted partner and friend, Laverne Elliott of Monticello.
